The NVS2801-PlUS VIDEO STORAGE Device from NEXTO DI is a mobile and expandable data backup solution that features USB 3.0 connectivity and is designed for videographers, photographers, and those who are working in the field with large amounts of imaging data. Using this device, users will be able to natively create a backup of SxS Pro/Pro+/-1, CFast 1.1 & 2.0, and SD/SDHC/SDXC cards. Using separately available adapters, P2/P2E, XQD, and CF cards can be backed up using the SxS slot. There is also a built-in USB card reader port that enables compatibility with other types of memory cards. Supported memory card file systems include FAT16, FAT32, exFAT, UDF, and HFS+. So that data may be easily copied on-the-fly, an internal 1TB 2.5" SATA SSD is included. This storage may also be upgraded by the user, so long as 2.5" SATA drives are used that are 9.5mm or less in height.

Using its MCopy function, the VIDEO STORAGE Device supports the creation of two simultaneous backups-one to its internal drive, and a second to an external USB drive that is formatted as exFAT. Using its 2.4" color LCD display and an audio jack, it is also possible to preview backed up content on-the-fly. While the fps support for 2K and 4K video is limited, you will be able to check and make sure that your content backup was successful. Also supported is Sync, meaning that when copying files to an external USB drive, only files that have changed since the last backup will be copied. This will help backups to be completed quicker and consume a minimum amount of storage space.

The NEXTO NVS2801-PLUS VIDEO STORAGE Device is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux, operates using an included AC adapter, and also contains a built-in lithium-ion polymer battery that lasts for up to two hours. Once depleted, the battery can be recharged in five hours using the power adapter, or twelve hours using the included USB 3.0 cable. Also included is a shock protective rubber jacket.

General Features

Light, Compact, Fast
Weighing 0.95 lb and compact in size, the NVS 2801-Plus is well-suited as a portable memory card backup storage device. It can use HDDs and SSDs, the latter of which enables transfer speeds of up to 300 MB/s. Maximum data transfer rates per minute are as follows:
  • CFast: 430 MB/s SSD, 115 MB/s HDD
  • SxS: 380 MB/s SSD, 115 MB/s HDD
  • SDXC: 60 MB/s SSD & HDD
  • USB Reader: 9.4GB SSD, 6.4GB HDD
Compatible Memory Cards
The NVS 2801-Plus natively supports SxS, XQD, CFast, and files 4GB and larger. Supported memory card file systems include FAT16/32, exFAT, UDF, and HFS+
Internal Storage
While the NVS 2801-Plus has 1TB of internal SDD storage, this can be switched out for a larger capacity drive, so long as it is a 2.5" SATA drive that is 9.5mm or less in height. It is also important to note that even if this device is mounted to a camera or tripod, there is nothing interfering with the removal of the backplate so the hard drive may be swapped out mid-shoot. This means that you can leave your camera setup as-is, swap out the hard drive, and get right back to shooting
Preview 2K/4K
The NVS 2801-Plus has a 2.4" color LCD display and an audio jack which allows Full HD and 4K video backups to be monitored on the fly. In other words, you can immediately check that your content was successfully backed up. The frames per second that may be previewed for selected codecs are as follows:
  • AVC Intro 100: 0.4 fps
  • AVC Intra 50: 0.6 fps
  • AVCHD: 0.3 fps
  • H.264 2K: 0.4 fps
  • H.264 4K: 0.1 fps
  • XAVC 2K: 0.4 fps
  • XAVC 4K: 0.3 fps

No External Power Required for Memory Card Readers
As the internal battery in NVS 2801-Plus supplies power to the card reader port, you can connect memory card readers without needing an external power source
Simultaneous Backup Feature (MCopy)
The NVS 2801-Plus can back up to two drives at once, allowing you to deliver one copy to the cutting room and store the other copy as a backup. This helps guarantee safety by minimizing any mistakes/discrepancies that may occur between the editor and the cameraman
Detect Corrupted Source Video Files
Source video may become corrupted from a slow memory card or drained battery. In such cases, the computer will not be able to recognize the corrupted file on the memory card. The NVS 2801-Plus can help detect these corrupted files on the memory card before copying so that you can be aware of possible problems and react on location
Minimize Data Loss from Carelessness
In cases where power is automatically turned off after backup/verification, or the power has turned off due to an error while backing up, users can often not tell whether the backup was successful. The NVS 2801-Plus has a built-in feature that shows the success/failure of the previous backup on the next power up
Edit Immediately by Connecting to the Computer
Backed up folders are organized by date in the NVS 2801-Plus. The NVS 2801-Plus can be connected as an external drive to the computer, allowing the editor to edit immediately or Drag and Drop multiple backup folders at once
Free Fall & Motion Detection
If you have installed a hard drive in the NVS 2801-Plus, failure can occur from external shock or shaking. The NVS 2801-Plus will show a warning message should shaking occur during usage. In addition, a built-in sensor can help detect freefall and shut the power down to protect the internal system before impact
Simple Button Controls
All features can be accessed using the power and control buttons. You can see the memory card copying progress and backup information via the 2.4" color LCD
Copy All Files to Another Drive (Sync)
You can sync all data stored in the NVS 2801-Plus 's internal drive at once to an external USB drive. It analyzes the data on both drives and copies only new data to the USB drive
Checking Usage History (Log File)
Usage records such as XCopy, MCopy, Sync, computer connection, and more is stored under the "NVSLog" folder of the drive (internal drive or external USB drive) as a LOG file. You can resolve problems that may occur between cameraman and the editor using this log file
